The last thing Jason expected was for his little shy neighbour to go Rambo on him over some ruined flowers. After he decides to take her under his wing he can't help but notice that she fits very nicely in his life. Now the only thing left is to convince her that this is anything but a game.
Okay so first and foremost this book is funny as hell. Seriously my sister thought I was on crack, we were just chilling in our room doing our own thing and the next thing you know I've collapsed on the floor in a fit of giggles. The hilarity of this book all comes down to Jason who is such an epic character that it sucks he’s fictional. That’s not to say Haley is boring, oh no she’s just as funny as Jason and honestly there are no two people better suited. Haley is cute, shy, a baseball fanatic, someone you don’t want to piss off and adorable in a geeky way. Sadly she doesn’t have the greatest self-esteem thanks to her good for nothing family, which is why even looking at Jason in a romantic way is a big no-no for her. That’s not to say everyone in her family is awful, her grandma is the coolest grandma there is. Anyways Haley and Jason’s relationship is incredibly sweet, there is no ‘insta-love.’ Because that would be beyond annoying, going from not getting a long, at all, to all lovey dovey. No, just no. In fact once Haley snaps and confronts his about being such a shitty neighbour, they become good friends and watching their relationship grow is really beautiful and funny to watch. Yes I mean watch because this book has a way of drawing you in, you actually feel you’re there.
Jason is childish, petulant, a total goofball, charming, the most ADORABLE freaking guy ever, OBSESSED with food and hot hot hot! *smiles*. There is no way in hell you can hate Jason or find a flaw, he. Is. Perfection. His character is the most hilarious hero you will ever come across, there is no comparison out there because only, but ONLY, RL Mathewson has the brilliance to come up with characters like the Bradfords. Before their friendship he is selfish, inconsiderate and clearly the worst neighbour ever, but Haley finally snapping puts all that to an end and one the best friendships ever develops. Through their friendship Jason helps bring Haley out of her shell, to change her life and be the strong woman she's always been underneath. Oh and his endearment ''ittle grasshopper' is so cute! and very fitting as he see's himself as her teacher/sensei. ‘Cause I’m so awesome I’ll give you a taster of some of Jason’s best moments:
“How dare you touch my cookies, you bastard!” Jason said in utter disgust before popping the cookie into his mouth and heading back to his house.
“Damn those looked good, too,” Brad grumbled.
Haley sighed. “Don’t worry I have a second plate on my counter.” The words were barely out of her mouth when Jason abruptly changed course and headed towards her house.
“Well, there was,” she said, watching Jason walk into her house like he owned it. A minute later he walked out of her house, carrying both plates and the gallon of milk she had in her fridge. He headed back to his house, but not before he glared at Brad. “You cookie thieving bastard,” they heard him mutter.
Brad rolled his eyes, chuckling. “And people wonder how I lost weight rooming with him in college.”
“I’m hungry,” Jason grumbled as he stared at the empty plates on his small
coffee table.
Brad groaned, “You practically ate both plates of cookies. How in the hell are
you hungry?”
Jason shrugged leaning back in his chair to watch the game. “I just am.
Leave me the hell alone I’m a growing boy, damn it!”
“Yeah, a growing thirty-one year old boy,” Brad mumbled.
“I’m still growing damn it so shut the hell up and feed me!”
“Order something and stop bitching!” Brad snapped.
“You order something. I’m too weak to move.”
“I’m tired and bitchy and all I want is some sleep so cuddle your ass up with me or so help me I will kill you.”
I give this book 5 well deserved stars and highly recommend it my minions. The ‘Neighbour from Hell’ series is unparalleled in the world of books, in my opinion, and it’s a buy you will not regret. RL is a fantastic author and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. Although the reviews are in my ‘to-do pile’ I recommend all her books, because it is not just this series but rather all her books that bring a smile to your face and have you in complete stitches from beginning to end. You will never as much fun with a book.
